Becoming a mother is one of the most exciting and joyful experiences a woman can have, but it often leaves many moms longing for the body they had before pregnancy. A healthy diet and exercise are enough for many women to lose the weight they gained during pregnancy, but it will not remove any excess or sagging skin due to postpartum weight loss. Losing weight also cannot address changes in breast shape after breastfeeding or the separation of abdominal muscles after pregnancy. The Mommy Makeover is a customized set of aesthetic procedures designed to reduce skin laxity and contour multiple areas of the body affected by pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. With all you do, and all you’ve done, there’s absolutely no reason not to reward yourself. Dr. John E. Sherman is committed to helping a discerning patient base achieve the appearance they desire, whether they are turning back the clock, or finally getting what they’ve always wanted. Get started by calling our Manhattan offices at (212) 535-2300 to book your appointment for a personal consultation and start designing your Mommy Makeover.

Every woman deserves to love the way she looks. The Mommy Makeover has become a popular option for women worldwide, offering them a chance to restore their pre-pregnancy bodies and their confidence. Women can pick and choose from the surgeries that will make them feel beautiful to create a customized Mommy Makeover that addresses their unique aesthetic concerns. Today’s plastic surgery procedures are safer, more comfortable, and have shorter recoveries and more natural-looking results than ever before. And, with a Mommy Makeover, multiple procedures can be performed simultaneously, so patients only have to prepare for and recover from surgery once.
What Procedures are Included in a Mommy Makeover?
- A Tummy Tuck targets excess and loose skin on the abdomen. It also allows the surgeon to repair abdominal muscles that are so often damaged from pregnancy. A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, allows patients to enjoy a flat, smooth stomach, as well as resolve the uncomfortable side effects that accompany diastasis recti. Once healed, any scarring is easily concealed by a bikini.
- Liposuction can safely and easily remove stubborn fat from the belly and other areas in a minimally-invasive procedure.
- Breast Augmentation and Breast Lift are also commonly performed as part of the Mommy Makeover for those wishing to enhance and reshape their breasts after losing volume from pregnancy and breastfeeding. Women can choose the implants that suit them best for the breasts of their dreams. A breast lift restores the breasts to a more youthful shape, and perky location on the chest, as well as repositions the nipple and areola higher on the breast mound.
Motherhood is a completely transformative experience. A Mommy Makeover can make sure you’re able to enjoy the results! These procedures can make sure you’re the total package.
Mommy Makeover patients can achieve a flatter stomach, shapely breasts, and eliminate unwanted body fat. Feel great and look fabulous as you continue your journey into motherhood with increased confidence.
The best candidates for a Mommy Makeover have realistic expectations for the outcomes of their surgery. They are in good health, are not breastfeeding, and do not plan to have any additional children. Ideal candidates are also 6 months or more postpartum. A Mommy Makeover may be right for you if you have stubborn fat areas resistant to a healthy diet and exercise, lax skin in the belly or separated muscles in your abdomen, and want to enhance or reshape your breasts.

Dr. Sherman will provide you with thorough instructions on how to prepare for your Mommy Makeover, depending on what procedures you will receive. A general set of guidelines for all patients includes:
- Fast as instructed before your surgery.
- Stop taking blood thinners and certain herbal supplements like Vitamin E two weeks before your surgery.
- Arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you for at least the first 24 hours after your surgery.
- Maintain a healthy lifestyle by not smoking.
- Complete breastfeeding at least three months before surgery.
Dr. Sherman often works with patients from out of town. A woman’s abdomen and breasts are usually the areas most visibly affected by a pregnancy, but there are many options for those with various target areas. Dr. Sherman will expertly guide you, creating a perfect surgery plan based on your needs and goals. The process usually takes about 4-5 hours and is done under general anesthesia.
Your recovery time and instructions will depend on the procedures included in your Mommy Makeover, but most patients should expect a 2-4 week recovery period. It is important to note that despite the light-hearted name, this is major cosmetic surgery, and patients need to plan for recovery time and receive help at home as they recover. You may be prescribed pain medication to minimize discomfort during your immediate recovery. In addition, getting plenty of rest, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and some light walking will be part of your recovery plan. You will also be unable to lift anything (including children) as you recover. Dr. Sherman will also provide detailed directions to guide you during your recovery, and you’ll return for regularly scheduled follow-up appointments to monitor your progress as you heal.
The benefits of a Mommy Makeover are almost immediate and long-lasting. You will return to your pre-pregnancy body and enjoy a sleeker, more youthful appearance. Depending on your procedures, you can experience the benefits of a flatter belly, more shapely and enhanced breasts, and an overall slimmer body shape. Your results will be optimized by continuing to lead a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet and exercise.
Once you are ready to invest in yourself with cosmetic surgery, you will receive a customized cost estimate during your personal consultation with Dr. Sherman. Because Mommy Makeovers are highly specialized to fit the particular needs of each patient, costs will vary. There are multiple financing options available, and Dr. Sherman works with CareCredit and PatientFi to provide flexible financing options for your surgery. Visit our Financing page for more information. Our staff can also help you apply for financing and answer any questions you may have about the process. Can a Mommy Makeover remove stretch marks?
If the loose skin removed during a Tummy Tuck or Breast Lift includes stretch marks, patients can look forward to eliminated stretchmarks in the treated area. However, those with stretchmarks elsewhere may need additional treatments in order to remove them.
I am unsure if I want to have more children. Can I still get a Mommy Makeover?
If more children may be in your future, you will want to wait until you are done with childbearing. Any benefits you experience from a Mommy Makeover could be reversed or negated with future pregnancies.
Is there a limit to how many procedures I can have done at once?
Your surgeon will provide expert advice and guidance on your options. In some instances where patients require more intensive surgery, a second session may be necessary to meet all of their needs.
How painful is a Mommy Makeover?
Most patients will experience some pain immediately following surgery due to the more invasive nature of some of the procedures, but each patient’s experience will be different. Your surgeon will discuss pain management options with you during your personal consultation. Generally, patients can expect about a week of bed rest and about a month of recovery before they can completely resume normal activities.
Are the results of a Mommy Makeover permanent?
The procedures are designed to provide beautiful, long-lasting results. Maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle will preserve your refreshed look for many years.
Will health insurance cover my Mommy Makeover?
Cosmetic surgery is considered elective and therefore not covered by health insurance.
